Simple Ribbon Hair Tie : Tutorial

I had nothing to do so …

header

AHH~ This excites me *u* hahah~ Anyhoo, I don’t really know how to sew; I was never the ‘home economics’ type of girl ~ HEH I used to cheat back in Grade school/High school! I had my mom/helper do my H.E projects hehehe ._. pricked my finger with the needle for quite a number of times too LOL :D

So I found this random lace/cloth thing in my room while I was looking for my colored pencils. Since I was bored, I thought it’d be great to try and make a bow tie <3 I love ribbons! I know you do too! *u*

HERE WE GO!

1

STEP 1: Grab your random lace/cloth. Make sure it’s not too long/ not too short. Just enough that when you fold it in half it’ll make a ‘not-so-long’ rectangle.

2

STEP 2: Make sure you have the ff.

  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Cloth/Lace
  • Optional: Sew No More Glue

3

STEP 3: Make sure you cut out a small portion of your material for your ribbons’ ‘binder’/middle part/I don’t know what it’s called.

PS: *You can use a different material/cloth/color for this.

4

STEP 4: If you’re using flimsy material like I am, fold about 3/4 or 1/2 inch on both ends and sew it to make it sturdy — this is to make sure your ribbon won’t fall apart later on.

5

STEP 5: Make both ends meet halfway.

6

STEP 6: It should look like this. Now, sew even just the middle part to secure both ends in place.

PS: * Make sure you don’t place the sewn ends on top of each other. We will be placing a binder on this part so we don’t want it to be thick as it’ll be a pain to sew on later.

7

STEP 7: Now grab the smaller cloth you cut out a while ago and fold it into two or three equal parts. It really depends on how thick you want it :D After folding, sew it up!

8

STEP 8: You should now have something like this.

9

STEP 9: Now you can estimate where to place your ‘binder’ by pinching your ribbon cloth in the middle. Make sure it’s equal! :o

10

STEP 10: Once you’re happy with how it looks, secure it in place so you won’t have a hard time sewing later~

11

STEP 11: You can now grab a regular hair tie *make sure it’s a strong one because we’ll be sewing it together with the ribbon* It’d be such a waste if it gets all stretched up and yucky after just a few days u_u

12

STEP 12: Sew one end of your ‘binder’ to your hair tie. It should look like this. Before doing so, make sure you’ve tried looping it around your ribbon making sure it fits and it won’t end up too thick.

13

STEP 13: Another important thing to remember is to make sure the ends won’t show on the face/front of your ribbon! This is why trying to loop it around first is important *o*

14

STEP 14: After making sure everything is in the right place/order, you can now sew your binder around your ribbon *u*

PS: *You can change the hair tie placement (bottom/behind of the ribbon). I prefer it behind but if you want an upright ribbon when you wear it, you should secure your hair tie below.

end

** Cut off any excess/loose thread :) and… you’re done!

Show me yours if you make one! :D
